Collection: Laura Schuler

Laura was born a middle child on an Air Force base, Chanute, in the state of Illinois. Laura has lived in New York, Maryland, Portugal and in the beautiful Low Country of South Carolina for 7 years.

In Maryland, she majored in Fine Arts at AACC and later attended the Schuler School of Fine Art in Baltimore. Laura was working in sculptural and kiln fired art when first introduced to drawing.

The love of drawing soon overtook her glass art, and so began a love affair with graphite and figure drawing. Laura's particular subjects of interest are dancers and movement. A dancer herself, this focus coupled with her love of Christ. Scriptural passages are titles in this body of work.

Laura's work has been in many galleries, featuring her glass and drawings. These  include The Torpedo Factory, Local by Design and Quiet Waters Park Art shows.

Laura serves as an OLLI Arts instructor and was the Arts curriculum board member for  OLLI at USCB. Laura is an active Artist and board member at the Beaufort Art Association Gallery.

Artist Statement

"You are a soul; you have a body”. This is the perspective that I embody and express in  my work. I draw using the mediums of graphite and charcoal. I create large images of  people and dancers in motion which appear “alive” on the paper. Viewers once drawn to  the image, discover the titled scriptural references for themselves."
